Up for auction is the 1977 Porsche 924 Martini Rossi Edition with Polizei Weiss (Police White) with Martini racing stripes around the body on Red interior. This Porsche was bought from the US through auction in the summer of 2018 by the seller, comes as US Spec and spent it`s entire life there prior coming to the UAE. Upon its arrival, it received a full restoration under the current ownership (some pictures of prior condition and during restoration can be found in the “Others” section of the gallery). The North American production of this 924 Martini Rossi trim is 1 of 2000 and for the rest of the world the production number is 1000 so a total of 3000 built for this model. The car comes with the original 4-speed manual transmission sending power to rear wheels (RWD), and under the hood comes with VW-sourced four-cylinder 2-litre engine that originally made 95 HP at 5,500 RPM in North American trim.
As part of the restoration, the seller states that just the block has been changed due to issues with the cylinder and piston gaps. Currently there is no rust on the car thanks to extensive restoration work where the car was stripped to bare metal and then repainted in original factory color. Seller describes everything to be functional on the car, the last major issue was fuel pipe leaking, which has been rectified. The last service was done approximately 100km ago with Autohaus. All the restoration work and previous service documents are available with the seller for inspection.
The Red cloth upholstered seats are complemented (restored with original Porsche cloth ordered in from Germany) with Black leather sides and Blue piping, the cabin has been restored to its original look and feel including the Scarlet carpet. This Porsche comes with the original plaque which is placed in its center console to confirm the originality of the Trim; impossible to find and order the seller had to chase the previous owner for it to be shipped from the US after the car arrived in the UAE. A leather wrapped steering wheel–all specific to the Martini championship edition fronts a cluster gauge with 150MPH speedometer and five digit odometer showing 115,000miles (prior to restoration it showed 114,000 miles and the current owner has driven a little over 2,300km). Additional displays are 8k RPM, Oil temperature and Fuel level.
Initial maintenance on this Porsche was performed by Airwerks Garage in Al Quoz. By December of 2018 the restoration was on full throttle; most of the parts ordered in from Europe to ensure they were original. After the interior restoration and cabling, the seller states that the car passed the RTA in May of 2019 but due to summer and not having an AC he did not drive it.The servicing and maintenance for the car continued throughout 2019 and most of 2020 through Autohaus in DIP. It is also in this shop that the engine went through a complete rebuild as well as re-cabeling.
As per the seller, during the restoration the car did not seem to have any traces of accident and same goes for him, under his ownership the car was not involved in any accident. During the summer months the car has been parked indoors at the location of Autohaus. He describes that the Porsche 924 models are slowly starting to catch the eye of collectors especially if they are limited production numbers such as this one. The next registration scheduled for the car will allow the new owner to obtain `Classic` plates. The statement from the seller that it has been saved from its initial fate of potentially dying out in a field in the US to now roaming the streets in the UAE.
